Throughout the United States, local and regional zoning regulations and property deeds and covenants bar residential households from using clotheslines to dry laundry. Deemed unsightly, clotheslines have Â environmental impacts againstÂ clothes dryers was almost never a consideration in these land use regulations. Â Climate change advocacy groups such as Interfaith Power & Light have been lobbying for changes in these land use laws throughout the United States. This article focuses on the efforts of the Rhode Island IPL to include overturning these regulations in any statewide Climate Risk Reduction legislation.
