Create a Climate Dot

Join the Interfaith Power & Light community of congregations and individuals for Climate Impacts Day. Interfaith Power & Light has all been invited by 350.org to hold local events on the weekend of May 4-6th (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, depending on when your faith community gathers) that capture in picture and word the climate impacts that people are seeing and the faith-related climate solutions that are being created. So think about what stories you want to tell the world!

WHAT CONSTITUTES AN “EVENT”

    • Something as simple as taking a picture and telling a story. An event can be held by one or two people or an entire congregation or community. Click here for more creative ideas.
    • Gather together with a few others or your entire congregation, and think of a faith-related story you’d like to tell the world. Allow your photograph to illustrate the story.
    • Create a hand-written or printed banner that you’ll hold.
    • Add a green dot to your banner if you want to tell a climate solution story.
    • Add a red dot to your banner if you want to show a current or future climate impact.
    • Add the words ‘Interfaith Power & Light’ to your banner if you wish to identify that you’re part of our community.
    • You will receive instructions on how to add pictures related to your event to the big 350.org global map being built that will be searchable by city, state, or zip code.

We look forward to seeing your dot! Here are some “mock-up” photographs based on previous IPL faith-related 350.org events.

Add a GREEN dot if you’re working on a CLIMATE SOLUTION:

  • local organic gardening
  • energy efficiency projects
  • renewable energy
  • innovating grounds and water solutions
  • advocacy efforts to move away from fossil fuels
  • advocacy efforts to support clean energy

Add a RED dot if you’re seeing CLIMATE IMPACTS, such as disturbing trends that you feel are related to climate change:

  • destructive weather
  • early spring
  • late snows
  • heavy rain
  • severe drought
  • rising water
  • eroding banks and beaches
  • record-breaking temperatures
