Albuquerque Journal: ABQ nun battles ‘unprecedented crisis’ of climate change

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — While attending the international climate talks in Paris last month, Albuquerque’s Sister Joan Brown, a Franciscan nun and environmental activist, noticed geraniums and other flowers blooming in the City of Light.

“Flowers blooming,” she said. “This is not winter.” At least not winter as we have been accustomed to it.

And Brown noted that in the two weeks leading up to the Dec. 1-13 conference, there were torrential rains of record-breaking proportions in southern India, rains that caused flooding resulting in hundreds of deaths and the displacement of tens of thousands. Read more
