Courier-Journal:Kentucky churches battle design to find energy savings

<p>Many churches have significant architectural beauty or history and are known and loved landmarks as part of the built environment. There can be doubt that sacred architecture has been important. However, many of these buildings have archaic energy systems that are not only a burden on the environment but also very expensive to maintain. This article highlights the efforts of faith communities in Louisville, KY, to address this very issue. </p>
<p>”If churches are invested in doing energy conservation, we’re interested in talking with them,” said Aaron Tornes, coordinator of the Greening West Louisville Program. He has conducted audits at 13 churches in urban neighborhoods. The group is part of the national Interfaith Power & Light, whose stated goal is “to protect creation by mobilizing a religious response to global warming.”</p>
